WOOD
The society needs to reduce the human environmental footprint by making materials last longer and choose materials with minimum release of CO2. At present, the building industry is responsible for about 40% of the global CO2 release. As the industry is facing the shift in society requring more sustainable and «green» solutions, alternative building materials are explored.
An excellent alternative to concrete and steel is wood, which has become increasingly popular as construction material for urban architecture. Wood is a renewable resource with positive environmental impact as it can bind CO2. However, wood faces some technical weaknesses as compared to other building materials. Poor color stability and susceptibility of growth of microorganisms like fungi and mould spoil the nice natural look and durability of wood, making it less attractive.
Make wood the preferred choice
– treat your wood surfaces with Joma Pure®
To increase the competiveness of wood as building material, we have developed Joma Pure®, a surface treatment product which improves the color stability and keeps the surfaces cleaner over time. Our titania nanoparticle is the key component in the formulation, as wooden surfaces treated with Joma Pure® become photocatalytic when exposed to daylight. Photocatalytic surfaces can break down organic contaminants such as moss and algae, while at the same time clean the surrounding air by breaking down NOx-gases.
To enhance the self-cleaning effect, Joma Pure® also contains compounds making the treated surfaces water-repellent. As water accelerates the growth of biological organisms, reduced water-absorption will enhance the self-cleaning effect of the surface treatment. The unique combination of photocatalysis and water-repellence gives Joma Pure® its documented (EN 15457) anti-fungal effect, without the use of harmful biocides. The product is easy to apply and leaves the surface diffusion-open, allowing the wood to breathe. We work together with our customers to find the best solution for application – whether it is for the aftermarket or in production-lines.
